blush + mei pang

Don’t let the name fool you, there’s nothing shy about blush.

In a world where sex appeal is becoming more self-defined, lingerie brands have emerged with pieces that reflect challenging ideas of what lingerie is supposed to look like – mostly uncomfortable, and mostly for the male gaze.

About blush lingerie

Founded in 1988 and launched into the digital world in 2014, blush lingerie is a Montreal brand that has captured the attention of shoppers looking for more, and less conventional intimates.

A balance of edgy and feminine, blush has carved a space for women to explore different sides to their sexy, without stretching too far beyond the comfort zone.

Collections are defined by occasion – bridal, and lounge for example – with variations in style and fabric. According to their about page, “lingerie should help women celebrate their body, their sexuality, their true self, no matter where life takes them, and should be an expression of self-love instead of a tool of seduction.”

Mei Pang x blush

The recent collaboration with makeup artist Mei Pang (mei pang x blush) featured an asymmetric bodysuit and bralette, the sharp cutouts made in the softness of cotton. According to Mei’s bio, she “...does not aspire to fit any predetermined labels, and focuses on creating imagery that brings her joy.” Lingerie In Canada was also able to see each piece in motion with model Juliet Sora, who found the collaboration allowed her to work within her professional guidelines.

“I don’t generally shoot a lot of lingerie… I don’t like doing anything that is inherently provocative or that feels very boudoir. I don’t like to do anything that caters to the male gaze. The only way I shoot something like lingerie is I tend to do a lot of bodysuits because that reads as high fashion,” she said.

As the demand for lingerie that helps women feel beautiful – exactly as they are – continues to rise, brands like blush lingerie will respond by working with models that represent different body types, and partnering with creators that avoid boxes at all costs.

Lingerie can be more than just undergarments, it can be a powerful tool for self-discovery and empowerment.
